Adherence & Consistency

Sticking to your plan can be challenging when you’re socializing on weekends, traveling for work, or attending social events. It’s easy to underestimate portion sizes, conveniently “forget” to track the little snacks, bites, licks and tastes… or you may even decide to skip tracking altogether.

These habits seem harmless on the surface. However, they lead to consuming more calories than you realize, and end up hindering your progress, and preventing you from achieving your goals.

The “Know Consistency” diagram below illustrates how these indulgences can derail your progress.

We’re not saying you have to be perfect, nor are we saying that you can’t enjoy a social life. In fact, quite the opposite! We want to coach you into building the habit of being consistent by developing the mindset of valuing “consistency over intensity”.

Here’s what we mean; since 2016, we’ve worked with hundreds of clients, and not one of them has finished the program with a “perfect adherence score”. Still, we’ve watched client after client achieve remarkable results in that time.

Point being, you don’t have to be perfect to see results; you just have to be consistent! In fact, we’ve noticed a correlation between adherence and results, and it looks like this:

  • Exceptional adherence, between 90 to 100%, produces exceptional results, with some room left over for a social life
  • Good adherence, between 80 to 90%, produces good results, with good amount of room left over for a social life
  • Average adherence, between 70 to 80%, produces average results, with a lot of room left over for a social life

At various seasons throughout your journey, you’ll have to decide what you’re willing to trade when the time comes. By planning ahead, making mindful choices, and always tracking your intake, you can still make progress towards your goals without sacrificing your social life.

Consistency with your plan, not perfection, is the key to achieving your health and fitness goals!  It’s easy to get off track when you’re out socializing, but making an effort to stick to healthy habits, even on weekends, will make a significant difference in your progress.

Don’t let small slip-ups hinder your success. Stay committed and focused, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. And remember, “Your body keeps an accurate journal, regardless of what you write down.” 😉
