I am a 56-year-old mother and grandmother. With my youngest child graduating from high school, I decided to go to grad school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. So lots of changes!
I had developed Type 2 Diabetes and had a lot of issues with the medications making me sick. I had tried many different weight loss programs, only to stall out. I was stuck! I had tried Weight Watchers x3, and just about every fad diet out there. I would lose and gain back about 4-5 pounds, so frustrating! I was starting to believe that I couldn’t lose weight. I learned about Copper State from friends who were enrolled. It was important to me that I had a coach who understood the challenges of diabetes and midlife.
The program was both comprehensive and individual. My weight loss struggles weren’t just one issue. My coach calculated the right nutrition and exercise and then stayed with me to adjust as needed. That is a huge difference! I didn’t feel alone in a frustrating cycle.
The big moments for me were 1) The focus on FAT loss (vs. weight loss), 2) Building muscle, 3) the importance of consistency, not perfection, and having accountability that is not shaming.
I started losing weight and passing milestones I hadn’t been able to for ten years! I am now in the process of going off my diabetes medication completely. I had normal labs for the first time in several years. I actually feel better than I have in over a decade! Since being with CSF, I have realized:
- The importance of protein, and healthy lean body mass. I learned the focus needs to be fat loss, not weight loss.
- My diet is balanced and so much healthier than when I was just “cutting calories”.
- Exercise is about building/ maintaining strength, and good health.
I had my first normal blood sugars since seeing my doctor. I cut my triglycerides by 48%. All my labs are normal. I am in the best shape of my life, or at least the last 15 years!
Without CSF, I would be stuck and feeling sick a lot. I probably would have given up on losing weight and reversing my diabetes.
Please take this opportunity to invest in your health! It is the best investment you will ever make.
